Stratford rallies around teen with rare tumor
Stratford once again has looked to inner strength to help a young member of the community.

Derek Hughes, 15, son of Rob and Vicki Hughes, recently was diagnosed with Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma. Since this is a very rare type of tumor, Derek was taken to Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
In support of Derek, a number of local businesses have made T-shirts and buttons with a big smiley face in support for Derek's recovery. So many children wanted these shirts that they were sold out within moments on the first day of the T-shirt sale Tuesday, while button sales began Thursday.
" The doctors do not know how or why this tumor formed," Vicki said. "We are very thankful it is not cancer, but this tumor is aggressive and can cause multiple problems. The doctors are very encouraging, and we are praying for the best.
" On a personal note we would like to thank all of our family, friends and the community for their support, prayers and love. Without all of these wonderful people it would be very hard to stay positive on fighting this tumor. Derek will have a long road ahead of him, but we know that all of the prayers will keep him strong, so he can move forward," she said.
For more information on Derek, visit www.CaringBridge.com, enter his name derekhughes, then "my story" to read about how this tumor was detected. Online donations are accepted as a tribute to Derek to help others who need support. You can also read Vicki's blog to follow Derek and his family as they work toward recovery.

Alternative's AA26006 Burnout is popular with trendsetters and road worn crowd.

The "Burnout" is the New Old Look.
Once again they have figured out how to take that brand new shirt and give you that feel of having owned it for 10 or more years. Gone are the days of digging through the attic, or back drawers to find that favorite shirt you wore in high school. You can now get that same look and feel right out off the rack. The burnout is a shirt that has either been altered by chemical or heat.

In the chemical process the fabric is softened treated with an acid that removes and softens the fibers in the fabric. The effected fabric then falls away to give a thinned or sheer appearance. The heat process involves exposing the fabric to flame and literally burning away the material to achieve the same thinned appearance.

Why would you want such a shirt? It’s about identifying who you are targeting for your shirts. Do you deal a lot with the biker crowd or grunge urban look? This is popular for that road worn look. Super trendy people are getting into this look because it looks like they found it at some vintage or secondhand store. Spirit wear groups are getting them for that retro look that is something the kid's parents might have worn back in the day. Other people like them because of their sassy look and animal appeal. When combined with artwork that has been distressed or worn these garments can really have an eye-catching and crowd stopping appeal. View our online catalog for some of the latest fashions.

Contact us today by email or phone 715.652.6887 to get "in" with the road worn crowd look.
